HMS ECHO H87 currently moored off Maidencombe |
It is a usual occurrence to see River-class warships (our regular visitors: HMS Severn P282 & HMS Mersey P283) moored off Maidencombe and AIS cloaked. I noticed a different Royal Navy ship moored close in this afternoon and took a photo to discover its identity. It is H87 HMS Echo, a hydrographic survey vessel whose principle role is to conduct survey operations in support of submarines or amphibious operations. Looking on the AIS tracking site, I was surprised to see that the vessel is showing as HMS Daring (D32) a Type 45 Destroyer. Both vessels have vastly different IMO (
International Maritime Organization) numbers so the error is puzzling.
