Overlay of the ruins onto the location today |
Now with the valuable aid of Bob's photo, taken from his property above, I have been able to overlay the gutted ruins of the hotel from 77 years ago onto the location of the present day.
I had been reasonably sure that this was the location as, after a few excursions out there, (some for the Coves of Maidencombe book) I had stumbled upon parts of the building long since covered with dense vegetation.
How can I be sure? The giveaway was the boulder strewn southern entrance to the cove. Under high magnification, several reference rocks, some exposed and others partially submerged could be cross-referenced from both photos. After a series of re-framing and resizing, I was finally able to slide the two photos seamlessly together.
An exciting discovery indeed - well done Bob.
